Azabu Sabo

This is one of my favourite japanese dessert places. It serves lots and lots of ice cream, parfaits, and japanese desserts which i really really like to eat!

The speciality is the cold seafood ramen with wasabi, which costs about $14 (i think they may have changed the prices) but i find it a bit too salty and i usually drain the sauce. It comes with wasabi mayonnaise, slivered almonds, lots of prawns, scallops, squid and healthy tomatoes and lettuce. The noodles are very tangy and it's the main reason why i like the dish.

They have bento sets, including the Oyako Don (Chicken with egg rice). There is also tempura don and all the usual dons that you find in most japanese restaurants.

The main attraction for me is of course, the desserts :) They have imported icecream from Hokkaido, the land of delicious japanese foods like uni (sea urchin), kani (hokkaido crab), otoro (tuna belly), abalone etc etc etc. The milk from hokkaido is really delicious, and so is the youghurt and strawberries mmmmm. Since i can't go to Hokkaido, the next closest i can get to it is eating the wonderful ice creams they import.

The green tea ice cream is really solid, and you can get it for take-away for about $3 a scoop (i think) They also have green tea and red bean icecream, strawberry, chocolate, and all the usual flavours.

If you're feeling indulgent, the desserts there are fantastic :D I can never go past marina square without grabbing a cone of green tea ice cream ( i believe that ice cream is best eaten from a cone and never a cup if you can help it).

They also have the sit-down kind of desserts - the kind that you can never take away including my number 1 favourite fruit parfait (i have no idea what the actual name is on the menu, i just go straight for it and point to the picture)

The cup itself is an optical illusion, making you think that you are eating more than you really are, not that i am complainig. One scoop of green tea icecream, a swirl of soft serve vanilla icecream topped with fruits (to negate some of the calories, and to make it a 'healthier' dessert). There is one piece of preserved apricot, melon, watermelon and the preserved cherry. One pink and one green mochi pieces with icing on the top. The base is filled with japanese jelly (it's supposed to be a very healthy zero calorie thing but i don't know the name) and red beans. Green tea is poured into the bottom of the glass, and when the vanilla soft serve icecream melts, it will transform the bitter green tea into a delicious milkshake.

I like to scoop out the precious green tea ice cream before it starts melting - i don't like eating melted ice cream, and i would ignore the vanilla soft serve icecream till i'm done with th green tea ice cream.

Now i shall introduce to you my second favourite dessert, and Jane's number 1 favourite dessert. See how many times she changes clothes in the following pictures - and that's only when we remember to shoot. This is the Mango Milk Dessert. People who frequent the Kopitiam in NUH will know this dessert as the humble Mango Milk Ice. The Mango Milk Dessert from Azabu Sabo is filled with lots and lots of milk, with finely shaved ice and topped with lots and lots of mango, with a swirl of soft serve icecream on top. Desserts make everyone happy!Oh no, while food whoring, notice how the ice cream perched on the mountain of ice has started melting!
Disaster as the ice cream has fallen off! Note that eating icecream ontop of mountains of ice requires great skill!

See the mess Jane has made! But where did the remaining blog of ice cream go?

I wonder...

The next dessert is green tea syrup drizzled over a great heap of soft serve ice cream. And a foundation of piping hot sweet potato cake. No wonder why there is now a minature leaning tower of ice cream

Traditional red bean paste with mochi, and a not so traditional green tea ice cream. I still prefer my green tea fruit parfait.

The waitresses are dressed in these victorian-maid like uniforms... wonder if it's supposed to attract all the otakus?? Got a white frilly apron and black skirts. But no hair piece to complete the whole outfit.

Canele - Patisserie Chocolaterie

Went to Paragon to try the new dessert restaurant which is located next to Orange Julius and opposite Star Bucks.

This is probably the closest that Singapore had to Koko Black, from Melbourne.
I tried the L'Amour Ice Cream, which is Rose Petal Ice Cream with raspberry swirl, rose meringue and lychee pieces. This does not taste of Bandung (rose syrup) but it has a more fragrant smell. (Is there even real rose in bandung??) I suppose they use real rose since it's at a hefty price of $8 for a single generous scoop. The rose meringue was nice and crumbly, i think you might even be able to buy it from the shop by itself.

Next was the Sweet Crepes. We tried Forest Noire (Black Forest) This had Dark cherry compote, chocolate ice cream and kirsch chantilly cream ($12.50).

The Nougatine Sweet Crepe ($13.50) is a house special - it's apparently very popular. A large scoop of Nougatine icecream, which is Praline ice cream with hazelnut nougatine (aka Hazelnut Ice Cream) on a crepe filled with Nutella, and topped with salty caramel, caramelized Filo and Vanilla creme chantilly. The vanilla creme chantilly is a fancy name for whipped cream i supposed, but there are real vanilla seeds inside the cream.

Another house special is the Mont Blanc Sweet Crepe ($13.50), which we didn't have space to try. It's candied chestnut icecream on a crepe with vanilla creme chantilly, black currant coulis and almond crumble.

Overall, i thought the L'amour icecream tasted the best! However, it does not come in crepe form. I woud also like to return to try the Chestnut Souffle with French candied chestnut and served with Fromage Blanc sorbet, and the earl grey icecream :D

They also have a range of desserts like tarts, crumbles, custards etc which i would like to try. Water is served (unlike BakerzInn) so you don't get too thirsty from all the sugary stuff.

Hope that you will drop by and give it a try!

Shin kushiya

Shinkushiya is a japanese grill restaurant. The decor is very nice, and like most of the restaurants in Vivocity, it faces Sentosa.
Each table has a variety of salts and sauces. There is green tea salt, plum salt (which is a nice pink-purple colour) and sea salt for dipping the yakitori in, but i thought it was too salty already. Grilled Onigiri (Rice Ball)
This one is the salmon rice ball. The rice on the outside is grilled and crispy, a bit like the crispy rice at the bottom of the claypot dish. I didn't quite like this one cos it was too salty but it was interesting to try.

The main course comes with an assortment of skewered meats, seafood or vegetables. I've tried the chicken set twice, and it comes with about 2 sticks of yakitori, one stick of 3 chicken meat balls, Chicken wing and a few other things that i cannt remember.

The seafood set is quite good, and there's unagi (eel), hotate (scallops), salmon, prawn and some other kind of fish i think. It comes with miso soup, rice, appetiser and fruit.

The sets cost about $20 depending on which set you choose.

They also have a take-away section where you can get the grilled riceballs and yakitori.

Tong Shui Cafe

My main aim of going to Tong Shui Cafe was because of this :Peanut Butter Thick Toast
As i am blogging about this, my stomach is actually rumbling cos i want to eat it! It's super huge look at this :Even bigger than a HAND and THICKER too!
Cholesterol laden (not that i care) artery clogging diabetes inducing, don't attempt to eat one of these yourself if you're a bit full - you won't manage to get it down cos it's very filling! and the condense milk on top - mmmmmm! i'm so going to tong shui cafe tmr!

Tong Shui Cafe is quite a new place catering to the clubbing crowd, it's opposite Great World City and it's opened till the wee hours of the morning. It serves hongkong style food - there's this really good Eight Treasures Tea which has the usual 8 treasures (whatever they are the only one i know is the wolfberry) and comes in either hot or cold. For the cold one, it's $3.80 for a jug which will give 2.5 servings in a glass. Its the perfect beverage to wash down the sticky peanut butter and its supposed to be very liang (cooling). Good for neutralising the heaty peanut butter (What's chocolate icecream then? Chocolate is heaty and icecream is cooling right?)

You can't really miss it cos of the bright pink decor, and they play Cantonese Cable Channel all day long.
Another thing i like to have when i go to Tong Shui Cafe is the Steam Egg Dessert. It's just the right consistency but only comes in cold - not hot.
They have other desserts such as mango pomelo sago, some ice mountain with ice cream etc but i still like the steamed egg! :D

The serve lunch meals too, but i don't really fancy it cos it's quite oily. I would prefer to try the Nasi Padang next door, it's supposed to be very famous but i have yet to try it. I usually come here just to eat dessert and the peanut butter toast.
The specialites is the baked fried rice with cheese which comes in a bamboo steamer. There's an option to add an egg and there are choices ranging from luncheon meat, sausage to chicken chop and beef steak, and you can even have a double chicken chop or beef steak.
There is also hongkong style instant noodles with the works, macaroni etc

Desserts 1

Desserts that i like - in no particular order. They're the highlights of a meal and there's always space - compartmentalise the stomach and always reserve space for desset.

Au Petit Salut

This used to be one of my favourite lunch places - though pricey (it's about $35 including taxes - more than what i would like to spend on the average lunch) the lunch sets have good food and great variety. About 5 different starters, entrees and lots of desserts. The desserts have yet to fail me even though i've been there quite a few times.

The speciality is the Souffles. The flavours change quite often, i've seen coffee, chocolate, mango, lemon etc. The picture is of a passionfruit souffle. You'll have to order it 20 mins in advance so it can be freshly baked and be sent wobbling to your table.

Brandied Cherry Tart
Actually i think its a brandied cherry tart i can't remember anymore! I ate it so long ago.

The Creme Brulee is fantastic i usally order that but i haven't got a picture. The Choux Pastry is good too and there are other desserts such as sorbet etc

Azabu Sabo - Marin Square, Near Billy Bombers

This place has ice cream specially imported from Hokkaido - the green tea icecream is fantastic! my favourite green tea icecream comes from here. In fact, it was only after i tasted green tea ice cream from here that i started to like green tea ice cream. Prior to that, i believed that green tea only tasted good in tea form - and hot tea only.

I don't know the name of the dessert - but i have it nearly 90% of the time when i go to Marina Square. It comes with a scoop of green tea icecream, a vanilla soft serve icecream, and two mochi things, fruits and jelly. There's also red bean and green tea inside. The soft serve icecream will melt slowly and then form a nice green tea milkshake.

Kuriya - Raffles City

Tea time (2.30-5.30pm) special with desserts going for just $5 and comes with a drink (different japanese teas, orange juice etc). I tried the grilled icecream and it was stunningly presented skewered over a bamboo with a bed of ice.

Shimbashi Soba - Paragon

This is affiliated to Kuriya and there is also a tea time dessert special. My favourite is the Matcha Tofu. It comes with a dollop of red beans and vanilla icecream. The brown stuff on the plate is fried buckwheat flour. Shimbashi Soba specialises in none other than Soba. The fried soba is slightly sweet, and has seaseme seeds. The cream Amitsu is my next favourite dessert - there are dumplings (mochi?) and it comes with a jelly and brown sugar.
The dessert tea time sets comes with either english tea or coffee, mugen cha (barley tea) or green tea. And it's only $5.

These desserts are avaliable during lunch and dinner but will cost you about $8 and do not come with drinks.

Marmalade Pantry

Sticky Date Pudding with Vanilla Ice Cream and Caramel
Apple and Rhubarb Crumble with Vanilla Icecream

It's obvious which dessert's mine. The ice cream's really delicious and its a nice generous scoop too! My first time eating sticky date pudding. It's full of dates and a bit sweet for my liking but then it went well with the icecream.

The apple rhubarb crumble was really good - big chunks of rhubarb, slightly tart, and lots and lots and lots of crumble. In fact, the crumble kept spilling over the dish =/

Menotti - Raffles City

This was the 50% off the price cos i got it after 10pm. I didn't like the dome shaped one cos it had orange - the one thing i absolutely do not eat. The one with the fanciful design and cornflakes was some hazelnut thing. It reminds me of a nicer tasting kinder bueno with crunchy corn flakes and hazelnut cream. The one with the strawberry is some cheesecake thing? and i can't remember what the greenbrown one is :(

I've been back twice since then - the Cannoli is really good - but you can't take that away cos the ricotta cheese will melt and flow out and the Cannoli won't be crunchy anymore.

The Warm Chocolate cake isn't really to my liking - too sweet.

There's this one which is called Catalana or something like that - i can't remember the spelling but it's creme brulee with brandied cherries. But i didn't get a picture cos it was too dark and i was rushing.
The desserts cost about $5-$6 and are half price abter 10pm.

La Strada - Shaw Centre (Lido Cinema)

This is on the other side of Shaw, near the entrance of the carpark, facing Pacific Plaza. Its italian and i went there for lunch. The tiramisu is very good - a generous portion for about $8 and it comes in these cup/bowls which is really big - much bigger than those tiny tiramisu that some restaurants give you and charge like $6. Its a bit watery at the bottom other than that, i think it's one of the bigger cheaper better tiramisus that i've eaten

Indulgz - Tan Quee Lan Street, Opposite Bugis Junction.

Chocolate mousse and Panna Cotta

OrganiCafe - Novena Square (Velocity, facing Harry's Bar and next to Pepper Lunch)

Other than the fact that the whole place reeks of Pepper Lunch, the food is good. I've been there twice and the food hasn't dissappointed.
The organic youghurt costs $2.50 and comes in 4 flavours. From Right to left - Mango and Lemon, Raspberry and Nuts, Konyaku Jelly and Mixed Fruits. The last flavour is the Blueberries and something i can't remember what but it was good. All four types come with organic honey.

Vis-a-Vis (Opposite Beauty World)

Chocolate souffle. I can't remember how much this was but it was very good too, Comes with brandied cherries and burnt caramel ice cream.

Corduroy Cafe in Vivocity

Granny Smith Apple and Almond tart - my fave i think i've more than 10 of these so far. But it tastes much better when eaten in the afternoon than late at night cos the pastry will go soggy - especially if you take away. The almond part (the pinkish layer) is really good. It tastes a bit like cheesecake, which i like! but the apples are a bit sourish and balances the richness of the almond layer. Its about $6.80 if i'm not wrong, pretty ex, and thats without taxes and service charge.

Apple and Rhubarb crumble in the back. It's not bad - lots of vanilla custard but i still like the apple almond tart better.

As you can see the 2 pictures are different - no prizes for guessing which one i ate :P

Smart Strawberries - costs about $1.90 each. Didn't eat it but then since they're unique i took a picture :D

Corduroy & Finch, Bukit Timah Branch

I nearly missed a really good place to have dessert cos of the bad reviews i heard from most people who tried this restaurant. Though i have nothing to rave about the main courses (which i personally think are rather weak), the desserts are really impressive.

The dessert platter costs about $15 (somewhere there, but not exactly $15) and comes with 5 to 7 desserts. But it was really impressive. My favourite one has the vanilla icecream (comes with real vanilla beans too!) and some almond-ish thing inside. It reminds me of an un-cheesecake like version of the grannysmith apple and almond tart. It was a mad rush to eat the vanilla ice cream - it was melting over the sides of the narrow glass. And i don't eat melted ice cream.

There is a brandied cherry and whipped cream, a light mousse cheesecake (i think? with a mango sauce layer), chocolate mousse cake (reminds me of the nice sweet secret cake), and a marzipan cake. It also comes in portions for 2 people which will cost $26 and three people.

The chocolate platter costs $15 and comes with a chocolate mousse cake, chocolate pudding, another chocolate cake with crunchy corn flakes inside, a cookie topped with a chocolate chip chocolate ice cream, and yet another type of chocolate cake.

It is rather unwise to attempt to eat BOTH the chocolate and dessert platters between two people even though they're for one person each. 1+1 dessert portions do not = to 2 people can share.
