Lins Smoodees

Peter Pan Green Smoothie of the Day $8.50

Green smoothies are all in the rage (online, at least) but I've yet to try any cos the thought of ingesting a whole bunch of kale/spinach/whatever-dark-leafy-green-vegetable seemed rather unappetising.  So when we happened to chance upon Lins Smoodies I decided to give it a try.

Check out their superbly eco friendly bamboo straw! The staff strongly discourage wastage and you'll have to bring your own tumbler to get your smoothie or have it in house (or something along that lines)

(wkr will be rolling her eyes and wouldn't touch this with a 10 foot pole)
Actually, we were waiting for Croute to open, so we decided to sit down and rest our sleep deprived selves and get a healthy drink. According to the staff there, the drink is best drunk with an empty stomach (which we had) but you shouldn't eat anything within 30 minutes of having the drink (which we did not follow cos we were eating at Croute).

Actually, I couldn't really taste or smell the veggies, mostly could taste the sweetness of the pineapple and a faint banana aftertaste, but it was really refreshing, and perhaps it's placebo but I imagine all the antioxidants counteracting the wrinkles that my skin forms when I'm post call. Comes with a small sprinkle of chia seeds for your daily dose of Omega 3 fatty acids.

They also have this really awesome granola thing with coconuts and dried snakeskin fruit. Really addictive - would totally buy this to munch on once they start production. I must have munched though a significant portion from that large glass jar while waiting for my smoothie.
The green smoodie of the day - with all organic vegetables: nai bai, wild spinach, sunflower sprouts, finger bananas, pineapple, and orange (of course, mine had no orange). It changes daily depending on the supply of fruits and they also do door to door deliveries. If you're interested in that kind of thing, check out their website.

Halloween

Since it's Halloween, I shall blog a festive post!I don't know what the heck these agricultural produce are, but they can be found in the fruits and vegetable section of the Paragon supermarket. They're super mutated and look like they came right out of the Chernobyl accident. (I think they're supposed to be pumpkins?) Someone even put this ugly looking thing amongst all the pretty genetically modified pumpkins (not me!)
It really looks like the pumpkin things were infected with millions of viral warts and yikes this is starting to remind me of the STD lectures with all the caluliflower groweths everywhere!
This post is courtesy of Jane, who so excitedly told me that I have to see the 'fungating fruit'
-_-"
*Edit: I've just found online that they actually breed these things specially for Halloween! Freaking gross man! I feel like using liquid nitrogen to burn the warts off! In fact, they even say on the website that "These heavily warted pumpkins and gourds are NOT diseased! They are bred specifically to have the warts. In fact, it has taken over 10 generations of breeding to obtain the size and consistency of warting for these varieties!"

Mango Nectarines

"Sweet, sweet, sweet, the Mango Nectarine is a unique treat. Bright canary yellow in colour and sweet to the taste. With just a hint of tropical mango flavour. "

When I saw this at Cold Storage last week, I knew I definitely had to try cos I love mangoes and nectarines. I was there debating if I should spend my $10+ (yes it's frigging 10 plus for 4 only!) on them but I decided to treat myself since it's before my exam!Unfortunately, I've just read up online, and the Mango Nectarine has no relation to mango! I was thinking along the lines of a plumcot (plum crossed with apricots) when I bought this - actually, thinking about it, I suppose it'll be insanely hard to cross a mango with a nectarine... Of course, the taste was fantastic! Insanely juicy (think juices running all over your hand) and slightly fibrous and extremely tasty - there's a slight tart taste when you first eat it and then later the sweet juices will flow out. It tastes more like a nectarine - actually, I can hardly taste any mango but it's a really fanatstic nectarine.

Apparently the season for Mango Nectarines is extremely short, and the season is predicted to end on early August. So hurry down to get your Mango Nectarines today!

Haiz! I don't know why all the doughnut peaches are so expensive! It's like$2.50 per piece from Cold Storage. They're my favouritest fruit ever! Alongside Japanese Grapes and Japanese Strawberries, I also like nectarines and peaches. Ahh I really should go for a holiday to some temperate country during summer and gourge myself on peaches nectarines plums cherries strawberries mangoes apricots etc etc etc...

Japanese Grapes

When Qoo (the one-eared cat drink) was first available in Singapore, we used to wonder how 'white grape', which was the first flavour launched, could taste like that - syrupy sweet. But wonder no more - when I first ate Japanese Grapes, I instantly thought of Qoo (even though these are red/black grapes and not white grapes...)The grapes are normal sized (not like those USA giant variety) and have black thick skins. But don't worry about the skins - you're not supposed to eat them - and you don't even have to tediously peel them - cos these are slip-skin grapes.

Just bite the top of the grape off, and there'll be one or two seeds inside (for the bigger grapes, there may be three, but never more) and then use your teeth to take them out.
After that, put it in your mouth and squeeze it against the roof of your tongue and all the nice syrupy sweet pulp will explode out, leaving the thick skin (like how spiders suck the juices out of their prey and leave the skins behind)These grapes are on offer now - they're pretty ex and are $9.90 a box. Usually, it's $16.90. I get mine from Cold Storage, but I suppose that all the big supermarkets would have these. Japanese grape season does not last long so hurry hurry hurry! (There are japanese grapes grown in Taiwan, and Korean grapes. The latter is quite nice too, but the Taiwan one is, just like imitation Japanese grapes...)
