Sushi Tei seasonal tuna special

I was pleasantly surprised to find this steal at sushi tei - it's their seasonal special of sardines (the white stuff) with negi toro (the minced tuna on the left) and Chu toro (mid range fatty tuna) for $14++ if only they did it without the sardines it would be perfect. The sardines are an expensive version of the local market variety small white fish and not very impressive at all. I got the egg and sardines which was really unpalatable and I didnt finish it.

I'm really craving for 2 random foods now. One will be Thai Express prawn toast which is superbly unhealthy deep fried and soaked in oil but it's very savory and nice and crispy. This is totally random cos I've only eaten it once but somehow the thought popped into my head and I can't get rid of the craving. The other is for a slice of Chocolate Origins cake which is the best value for money chocolate cake but no way in a thousand years am I going to trudge across half of Singapore after work to get it. Perhaps on Saturday if I get enough sleep on Friday!

10 Scotts

High Tea at 10@Scotts eons ago - it was really great just that I didn't have time to blog about it. I shall try to clear up my backlogs (from months ago) by blogging about the places that I really enjoyed...
High tea was a highlight in my food diary - the menu is small but concise and it's unlimited servings of everything, including the tea (and you can change tea flavours too!). I would really love to re-visit this place, but there's so many other high tea places which I have yet to try :(

The sandwiches are soft and fluffy and they have ham&cheese with a nice hot mustard spread, smoked salmon (not particularly impressive) and egg sandwiches. I'm such a sucker for soft fluffy sandwiches and I would just waste stomach space eating them up one after another...
The crab cakes are particularly nice - extremely sweet crab meat with crispy batter and a creamy herb based sauce - I got 2 servings of this! Lazy persons way to enjoy crab meat instead of painfully digging through the shells...
Their fruit bowl which was very refreshing - they have this little fridge with many desserts/fruits/mixed vegetable dips etc as well as chicken liver pate (which I didn't try cos I didn't want to waste the whole huge jar)....Of course, their service was impeccable and we enjoyed the buffet and rolled off to shop after...
I really want to try the St Regis high tea next! Just need to look for a weekend where I don't have to work...

My default mazechirashi ($35++ or 42 after the pluses) which never fails. If every weekend can be like this life will extremely blissful.

Har jeong Kai nuggets

Was around in the Ghost town orchard central today when I walked past everything with fries (EwF) and saw this poster. Couldn't resist trying the har jeong Kai (prawn paste chicken) nuggets.

EwF has just made fast food tastier and even more tempting by making a boneless version of everyones favourite Tze char dish.

It smells great and makes your mouth water when you take a whiff of it; and it's fried on the spot so you'll get a piping hot box of these nuggets.
It comes with honey mayonnaise which is pretty mediocre but the chicken is soft and tender and unlike the Tze char ones, you won't need to pick the meat off the bones.

Taste is good though it's really oily it should come with the warning label "heart attack in a box".
I think EwF is doing much better than its counterpart Loola's - tried the one at Esplanade last month and it was quite dissappointing.

London eats in brief

I'm relaxing in the welsh countryside now breathing fresh air and enjoying the scenery which is a welcome change from London.

Dinner at The Green House in London - its a one Michelin star restaurant and serves modern European cuisine.

Had the winter tasting menu (£55++ per person for 6 dishes). I really liked the salmon with beetroot Our main was duck breast which was also very well done - tender pink and juicy.

Desserts - on top of the main dessert which had Guinness ice cream, there was mini portions of cheese cake, chocolate encased chestnut, lemon tart, some choc thing and hazelnut macaroon.

Hopefully i will have time to blog abt my lunch at Alain ducasse and dinner at hibiscus (which I really liked). - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

Ramen champion in changi airport

There's a Ramen Champion branch in T3 changi airport. It's rather small with 4 stalls only (gantetsu, riki, hakata gensuke and ikkousha). I've tried only gantetsu before. This is the ikkousha hakata style ramen - though hakata ramen isn't my favorite... The best thing about this was the perfectly boiled tamago with the yolk still runny. The soup was tasty but not very remarkable and I didn't quite like the char Siew cos it was choped up jnto small little pieces. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

Taro cake @ Coffee Stars by Dao

Happy chinese new year! I'm feeling like Scrooge cos I have to work every single day during cny. The only redeeming fact is tt most of the shops will be closed tmr. This is the taro cake from Coffe stars a new cafe in wisma. It tastes very much like chilled ohr nee and the cream is actually coconut cream. The cake layers have bits of taro mixed into the batter. I shall slowly figure out where nine west has shifted to after I'm done wth this cake... - Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

Hummerstons

Hummerstons is a pretty new restaurant opened by the ex-PS cafe chef. It has the same casual laid back feel of PS cafe and tasteful, homely decor. I definitely wouldn't have visited it if Julie hadn't suggested it cos I'm so tired from work and not on the active lookout for new food places.
Their signature dish is the poutine, which is a home style gravy with potatoes dish with a variety of toppings. Their best seller is the Montreal poutine ($19++) which comes with a decadent combination of foie gras, mushrooms and emmenthal cheese. It looks boring and browy but is indeed a lethal combi and tastes great - thick cut potatoes immersed in tasty gravy and a soft wobbly blob of foie gras and tender juicy mushrooms. And as you eat the foie gras, its lovely fatty oils will ooze out and drip over the potatoes making it even more yummy.
Smoked duck quesadilla ($27++) didn't fare as well as the poutine. I thought it was way overpriced. It was interesting that they paired the smoked duck breast with sweet roasted pears but taste wise, it was very average.
The Chimichurri Lamb short ribs ($32++) were not bad, but not spectacular either. The lamb ribs were well marinated and soft, but a bit too oily and fatty for my liking. It comes with Jamaica Honeydew slaw (tastes just like regular coleslaw, maybe a bit more sour - wasn't very remarkable or I'd have remembered) and a twice baked potato.

I suppose I would revisit Hummerstons again to try other dishes, but price wise it's pretty steep. The Montreal poutine itself is totally worth coming back for!
